The HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exhibition brings together nearly 45,000 health information and technology professionals, clinicians, executives and market suppliers from around the world. Exceptional education, world-class speakers, cutting-edge products and powerful networking are hallmarks of this industry-leading conference and blockchain is part of the agenda that Hyperledger is supporting.

The following sessions from the Hyperledger community will occur:

Blockchain Applications to Accelerate Innovation and Efficiencies in Drug Development Mon March 9th 1:15pm-2:15pm

As the use of wearables, omics, and geolocators are increasingly used in clinical trials, the amount of data is growing exponentially. As a result, more than 60% of pharmaceutical executives are planning to invest in blockchain technologies to foster innovation, and leverage these increasingly large data sets. Blockchain, coupled with artificial intelligence, is helping the industry explore data nuances as well as automating manual data tasks. As examples, 10 large pharmaceutical companies are collaborating using a blockchain system called Melloddy (Machine Learning Ledger Orchestration for Drug Discovery). By training algorithms using each other’s data, the goal is to accelerate and reduce the cost of drug development without revealing commercial secrets.

Speakers: Wendy Charles, PhD, Vice Chair of the Hyperledger Health Care Special Interest Group

Your Blockchain Network Is Live-What Happens Next? Wed March 11th 8:30am-9:30am

Blockchain development and deployment is accelerating across the healthcare market. For many organizations, the question is no longer about whether to adopt blockchain but rather how to maintain, grow and extract maximum value from a deployment. In January of 2018, Change Healthcare went live with a production blockchain network that manages millions of transactions a day between payors and providers and continues to expand its use of blockchain in a number of ways. In this session, Brian Behlendorf, executive director of Hyperledger, and Emily Bailey, director of blockchain development at Change Healthcare, will dive into the challenges and opportunities that come once the focus shifts from getting an initial deployment into production to ensuring your organization is getting the most from individual and cross-industry networks with returns such as increased efficiencies, reduced risk and improved outcomes. see details.

Speakers: Emily Bailey, Blockchain Product Development Director, Change Healthcare and Brian Behlendorf, Executive Director Hyperledger

Implementing Next-Gen Technologies to Deliver Value for the Healthcare Industry Wed March 11th 1:00pm-2:00pm

Participants will join senior executives overseeing Providence’s technology and services companies in a grounded, real-world discussion on how to apply the latest technologies in a way that delivers measurable value. The session will focus in particular on the challenges of implementation in complex, highly-regulated environments with an abundance of legacy systems. Session leaders will draw from Providence’s experience implementing blockchain and machine-learning technologies to share insights, lessons learned, and opportunities unlocked.

Panel moderated by Rich Bloch, Chair of the Hyperledger Health Care Special Interest Group

Building an Interoperable Blockchain-Enabled Ecosystem- Thurs March 12th 12:30- 1:30pm

Real blockchain-enabled solutions are gaining traction in healthcare, but are they forming in silos? In the past few years, various consortia have emerged that leverage different platforms to solve a number of use cases. While these consortia and platforms aim to address real needs in healthcare, they may also add a layer of complexity to the industry’s existing interoperability challenges. This session will provide guidance on how blockchain projects might consider future blockchain interoperability as they progress, providing insight into the current approaches used by different industry initiatives. Additional insights on current efforts around blockchain standardization with be highlighted, to avoid the creation of interoperability islands. details.
