CREDEBL Becomes an LF Decentralized Trust Project, Advancing Decentralized Identity and Verifiable Credentials for a Secure Digital Future

We are excited to announce that CREDEBL, the leading platform in Decentralized Identity (DID) and Verifiable Credentials (VC) management, developed and maintained by the AYANWORKS team, is now officially an LF Decentralized Trust project. This contribution signals a major step towards the widespread adoption of Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) solutions and reinforces the shared vision of a more secure, transparent and user-centric digital world.

Initially launched as an open source project by AYANWORKS in 2023, CREDEBL is already making a significant impact in the field of decentralized identity and verifiable credentials management. Deployments in two countries for their National Digital Identity - Bhutan's NDI and Papua New Guinea's SevisPass Digital ID - showcases its reliability and effectiveness. Through these initiatives, CREDEBL is driving security, transparency, and trust in the digital space, solidifying its role as a key platform in this evolving sector.

By moving into the LF Decentralized Trust ecosystem, CREDEBL will gain access to additional resources and support, further enhancing its capabilities. This move will enable CREDEBL to expand its reach and continue leading the way in shaping the future of decentralized identity management worldwide.

What is CREDEBL?

CREDEBL is a cutting-edge, population scale platform designed to simplify and secure the management of Decentralized Identity and Verifiable Credentials. After delivering several decentralized identity solutions, the AYANWORKS team realized a need for a system that acts as a reusable, scalable core SSI platform that supports building multiple sector-specific use cases for Verifiable Credentials implementation.  CREDEBL is a result of this realisation.

CREDEBL is designed to be multi-tenant, agent-agnostic and ledger-agnostic, providing flexibility across different Verifiable Data Registries (VDRs), DID methods, and Verifiable Credential formats.

CREDEBL provides end-to-end verifiable credential lifecycle management, allowing organizations to issue, verify, and manage digital credentials. Designed with scalability in mind, it can support population-scale implementations and is optimized for use cases like but not limited to National Digital IDs, Digital Travel Credentials, mDLs (mobile driver’s licenses), Academic Credentials and more. It is recognized as a Digital Public Good (DPG) by the Digital Public Good Alliance (DPGA).

Key Features of CREDEBL

Why move to LF Decentralized Trust?

The decision to contribute CREDEBL to LF Decentralized Trust marks a pivotal moment in the platform’s journey. As a project of this neutral, open-source umbrella organization, CREDEBL will benefit from the LF Decentralized Trust’s collaborative environment, which will help accelerate the global adoption of decentralized identity technologies. The trust that comes from being under the Linux Foundation is an added advantage.

Effective Governance

LF Decentralized Trust provides a structured governance model, ensuring CREDEBL’s direction is community-driven and decisions are made transparently, supporting long-term project stability.

Thriving Community

The move fosters a vibrant, collaborative community where developers, contributors, and organizations can actively engage—through code, bug reports, feature requests, and more to accelerate the platform’s growth.

Sustainability

Building a more diverse contributor base from the global LF Decentralized Trust community reduces reliance on a single entity, ensuring that CREDEBL remains resilient and sustainable as it scales.

Active Development

LF Decentralized Trust promotes regular releases and ongoing improvements, ensuring CREDEBL stays current with new features, bug fixes, and evolving user needs.

Accelerating Adoption

Access to a broader network of developers and enterprises will drive CREDEBL adoption across industries, measured as a success metric by the number of projects built on top of its platform.

Best Practices

CREDEBL will adopt open-source best practices, including SBOM and code security, ensuring a secure, interoperable, and transparent platform.

A Vision for the Future of Digital Identity

The vision behind CREDEBL is clear: to make decentralized identity accessible, scalable, and trustworthy for applications that impact populations at large. The CREDEBL community aims to create a world in which users have full control over their digital identities, fostering trust in online interactions without relying on centralized authorities.

As part of LF Decentralized Trust, CREDEBL community will continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible in decentralized identity. By supporting industry standards like W3C DID, VC, Trust Over IP, DIF, OIDC4VC, ISO mDL and integrating with leading blockchains, CREDEBL is helping lay the foundation for a decentralized identity ecosystem that is secure, user-friendly, and scalable.
