2025 Update: Off to a Fast Start

As we kick off the second quarter of 2025, it's a good time to reflect on the incredible progress we've made together at LF Decentralized Trust (LFDT). LFDT was launched last fall to support a fast-evolving decentralized future through open source collaboration, with a focus on digital trust, interoperability, identity, and decentralized infrastructure. We hit the ground running, making 2024 a landmark year. And now 2025 is off to a fast start across our industry and certainly within the LF Decentralized Trust global community!
From the first weeks of the year, we’ve been going full bore here at LF Decentralized Trust engaging with and championing our community and projects. We kicked things off by joining the discussions at WEF in Davos where the topic of decentralized trust played an evermore bigger role. From there, it was off to Tokyo to speak on “Bridging Blockchains; Building Businesses" at GFTN Japan Forum and host a workshop at JSCC (Japan Securities Clearing Corporation) on the future of financial markets advanced by IT innovation, where open source and Besu took center stage.
At an LFDT interoperability workshop hosted by J.P. Morgan, speakers from Adhara, Chainlink Labs, IBM, Interop Labs (Axeler), LayerZero, Polygon, Swift, and more showed the way forward for collaboration across many Layer 1, Layer 2, and permissioned networks. As we heard loud and clear in the room, there is a high level of demand and excitement for this type of collaboration.
During Digital Asset Summit NYC 2025, we welcomed LFDT members at our booth to showcase their expertise and highlight how they’re leveraging our open source technologies to drive real-world impact across the digital asset ecosystem.
Come find us at future events. There are a number of great ones coming up, including Point Zero Forum, the FT’s Digital Assets Summit, Women in Tech 2025, the inaugural Global Digital Collaboration Conference, a privacy workshop, and more.
Our technical community has been moving fast as well. They’ve already added one new project, Credebl, and multiple labs. Two projects, Credebl and Hyperledger Iroha, have also released 2.0 versions of their code bases.
There have also seen a number of great project updates, including:
- LF Decentralized Trust’s Hyperledger Indy on Besu Joins the Did:indy Method: Six Months of Progress
- Full Linea RPC APIs Support in Web3j
- New Releases from Hiero Community for Integrating Identity Frameworks
- Trust Over IP’s Trust Registry Query Protocol (TRQP) V2.0 Now Open for Public Review
LF Decentralized Trust members are the ones fueling all this work, and we continue to broaden our support with new members from around the world. We recently announced another wave of new members, joining us from Australia, Canada, India, Singapore, and Spain.
In the last few months, we’ve hit some other key milestones on the global growth front:
- Our Meetup community surpassed 120K members, convening in 188 groups across 86 countries
- We just welcomed a new LFDT European Regional Chapter that will support and grow engagement and accelerate collaboration across our many active and innovative community groups, contributors, and members in Europe
- Our Brazil and Latin America Chapters have been focusing on helping their community members prepare for exams for the Besu Certified Professional (BCP) (newly released) and Hyperledger Fabric Certified Practitione (HFCP) certifications.
- The India Chapter just hosted a webinar on India’s leadership in decentralized technologies, marking the publication of the latest ebook detailing activities across the India community
LF Decentralized Trust Tech in the Market
Of course all this work is, ultimately, in support of deploying technology to drive efficiencies, build businesses, change markets, and enable the transition to a digital-first economy. During the first few months of 2025, we have seen a wide range of new solutions and services that are powered by our projects reach key milestones. They include:
- DTCC launched a next-generation digital platform, built atop Besu, to improve global collateral mobility and efficiency, marking the first institutional use of AppChain infrastructure for decentralized finance
- The Bank of Hong Kong issued a $300 million digital bond with a three year terms using HSBC’s Orion digital asset platform, which is built on a Hyperledger Fabric-based blockchain
- Using a Hyperledger Fabric-powered platform, ATME, the digital assets exchange licensed by the Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB), has successfully completed its first issuance of tokenized real-world assets (RWAs) with gold-backed tokens
- The Bank of Papua New Guinea shared results of proof-of-concept experimentation as a step towards the launch of a CBDC built using Hyperledger Iroha technology
- A new South African ride-hailing platform, Twytch, is using Hyperledger Indy to improve passenger and driver safety by verifying both users’ identities while ensuring that this private data is not vulnerable to a data breach
- ForesToken has launched EyeForFor 2.0, a digital platform that uses a Besu-based blockchain and geointelligence to organize and structure the purchase and sale of wood, one of the top agricultural exports of Brazil
- DocOnChain has begun streamlining document handling for Philippine local governments and barangays with Hyperledger Fabric-based digital signature solutions
- Sharjah Maritime Academy introduced micro-credentials, which allows students to earn verifiable digital certifications for specialized skills and achievements, using a Hyperledger Fabric-powered platform from Educhain
